Madagascar

The project is located in the Masoala peninsula near the natural park of the same name, classified by Unesco and rich in a great diversity of endemic flora and fauna. The Fokontany municipality of Ambatobe, with the Génération Masoala association, is committed to setting up a community nursery. The latter is supported by 3 trained nurserymen and local volunteers.

The challenges of this operation are multiple. The nursery production is community-based, it is open to local inhabitants who are involved in producing plants with a varied future. Part of the trees such as intsia and rami be will be planted in reforestation plots, others will be planted among the inhabitants in order to produce various fruits contributing to the development of agroforestry. The different species will bring marketable products to the population and promote a local economy. In addition, the establishment of fast-growing trees will reduce the pressure on the wild forest by creating an energy source.
